Maasai Milk Gourd. This is a leather strapped Maasai gourd with beads and buttons .It was initially used for storing milk. It is now used as a wall accessory.

This gourd is handmade from the calabash tree by the Maasai people. The Maasai people use it to store milk, honey and beer. Maasai warriors often mixed milk and cows blood as it is believed to provide strength and nutrition for hunting or fighting. Some gourds will have metal patching or stitching to restore their functionality as they are passed down from generation to generation. These gourds are all unique with their own embellishment of leather, beads and metals.
