African Art Nyamwezi Beaded Fetish Figure Doll From Tanzania

This is a wonderful Nyamwezi Figure or Doll Handmade from Tanzania

The Nyamwezi are the most represented group in Tanzania. They are located in the northwest of the country, between Lake Victoria and Lake Rukwa. Most people practice traditional religion despite Islamic and Christian conversion attempts. Their belief is centered around a powerful god named Likube (High God), Limatunda (Creator), Limi (the Sun) and Liwelolo (the Universe) but the cult ancestors remains the main daily religious practice. The Nyamwezi tribe is famous for their wooden dolls carved with geometric features and adorned with multi-colored bead necklaces, cowrie shells, coins, fiber and leather. This doll helped prepare the young Namji woman for her role as mother. The dolls were also used for ritual use and as a protective figure and fertility figure. This would be a wonderful gift and be lovely as home decor as well.

Measurements are 14 inches by 7 inches.
