Antique African Art Carved Knobkerrie/ Knobkerry Club.

A knobkerrie/ knobkerry is a form of wooden club, used mainly in Southern and Eastern Africa. It has a large knob at one end and can be used for throwing at animals in hunting or for clubbing an enemy’s head. For the various peoples who use them, they often have marked cultural significance. Being able to carry the knobkerrie has also had a political dimension, especially in South Africa.

It is a fine African club of good weight and proportions.

The overall length is 26.3 inches.

The heavy onion shaped head has a diameter of 4 inches.

The entire Knobkerrie is a very dark rich coloured timber, being one of the many exotic timbers found in the South African regions.
