Kifwebe Masks often feature a round face, a unique mouth shape, and eyes that appear closed. The natural pigment on the stripes may symbolize the same symbolism as the Kifwebe masks of the Songye, evoking animals. Some masks have a sagittal crest and conical protrusion. Used in funerals and investitures, and during rituals of the kazanzi society, which combats witchcraft. They may also have been used as entertainment and to warn children against misbehavior.  White is often associated with the spiritual world and the moon. Colors in African masks can have deep meaning, with red symbolizing vitality, yellow representing spirituality and royalty, green embodying nature and fertility, and blue signifying protection and spirituality.

The Kifwebe  Bird Mask is a perfect addition to any collection of African masks, as it not only represents the Luba community’s history and culture but also showcases the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who created it. It also serves as an excellent decorative piece adding a touch of cultural flair to any room or space.
