Rare Songye Power Figure Nkisi Statue Tribal African Art Sculpture From Congo.

A very fine and old SONGYE power statue from the Congo, dating back to the first half of the 20th century. The statue is made of hardwood, the surface with traces of handling and use.

A brittle piece of leather is wrapped around the waist, an antelope’s horn stuck in the head.

Mankishi (plural of “Nkishi”) are figures of power,

They serve as relays with the spirits of the dead, very present in religion…They are used in “magical” rites serving the interest and well-being of an individual or the entire community.

Measurements  are 13 inches by 4 inches.
