Original price was: $480.00.Current price is: $432.00.

This beautiful mask shows a Songye or Luba cock mask, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, originating in the 1970s from the eastern Luba people. They are often associated with the bwadi bwa Kifwebe society and used in rituals, connecting the spirit of ancestors and nature. The masks are traditionally painted in white, red, and black. The mask’s features include a crenelated crest, barbs, an arched beak, and eyes, all characteristic of a rooster. These animal masks, including the cock mask, gained popularity in the 1970s among the Luba and particularly the Zela people. Like other Songye and Luba masks, this one would have been worn with a costume of rope and vegetable fibers.

The Mask is a perfect addition to any collection of African masks, as it not only represents the Luba community’s history and culture but also showcases the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who created it. It also serves as an excellent decorative piece adding a touch of cultural flair to any room or space.
